About Batchelor
Meet Jeff Batchelor

Jeff Batchelor is a full-time mediator and arbitrator. In a career spanning more than 45 years, he established himself as one of the preeminent appellate lawyers in the Northwest. He now devotes his energy to the craft of mediating and arbitrating civil cases.

Drawing on his diverse appellate background and his experience as a pro tem circuit judge, Jeff began mediating cases in 1995, six years after he arbitrated his first case in 1989. Jeff has served as a special master in Oregon’s U.S. District Court and as a discovery referee in Multnomah County, Oregon Circuit Court.

Jeff no longer practices law, but during his year as a practicing lawyer, Oregon Super Lawyers regularly ranked him among the top 50 attorneys in the state. He was named the Portland Alternative Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America in 2010 and again in 2013. Best Lawyers again honored Jeff as Portland's Arbitrator of the Year for 2017 and as Mediator of the Year for 2018.

Jeff attended Brigham Young University and Oklahoma State University on wrestling scholarships, where he competed at the highest levels with the very best. More than 50 years later, he points to this experience as the source of his ability to stay with a case until it is resolved. The mental toughness to do this sets Jeff apart from others in the crowded field of mediators.

Jeff earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, graduating in Psychology and English in 1969. A native Oregonian, he returned to the state the same year to attend law school at Willamette University, where he was an editor of the law review and graduated cum laude.

For more than 40 years, Jeff practiced law at a high level with some of the very best, most talented lawyers in the Northwest. As a consequence, and following a long history of honoring outstanding lawyers, the Multnomah Bar Association selected Jeff as the recipient of its prestigious Professionalism Award for 2008. Four years later, in 2012, Jeff turned the key on Batchelor Mediation + Arbitration, where he continues the tradition of excellence that has marked his work as a professional since 1972.
